Lionel Messi: Barcelona ace says he MISSES Cristiano Ronaldo, talks Champions League wish

Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus in the summer in a £105million deal after nine years in La Liga.

And Messi insists he wishes he was still playing in Spain despite their well-publicised rivalry.

“Yes [I miss him in La Liga],” he said. “It was great, although it was tough for me to watch him win titles.

“I have to say, it would be nice to still have him here.”

Messi says he has watched Ronaldo adapt to life in Italy with a keen interest and is hoping to face off against him in the Champions League final in Madrid in June.

Messi’s Barcelona face Manchester United in the quarter-final and will play one of Liverpool or Porto in the last four if they beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Meanwhile, Juve take on surprise package Ajax before a potential clash with Tottenham or Manchester City.

And Messi believes there is every chance he and Ronaldo could go head-to-head in the competitions; showpiece at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“I have a lot of respect for Juventus,” he added.

“They’re a great team, and now they’re even better with Cristiano.

“Hopefully we get to the final… and then what happens, happens.”

Messi and Ronaldo have won 10 Ballon d’Or titles between them but their era of dominance came to an end when Luka Modric was named the best player in the world last year.

The 31-year-old Argentinian still thinks he and Ronaldo are the leading stars of the game but believes competition for next year’s Ballon d’Or could be even tougher.

“Neymar, Mbappe, Hazard, Suarez, Kun [Aguero]. Any of them could be the best in the world,” he said.
