The Reds have now drawn five of their last seven matches in all competitions as we must approach the business end of the season.

Besides the 5-0 win over Watford, Liverpool have really struggled in front of goal of late having fired blank in three of their last four matches.

Last week’s dour stalemate at Everton saw Manchester City regain top spot in the Premier League.

Xherdan Shaqiri was one player who helped Liverpool kick into first gear before Christmas.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won all eight games in December scoring 23 goals at an average of 2.8 per game.

Mohamed Salah took up a new central role and Liverpool turned the tables in the title race to go above City who endured a wobble.

But now things have changed and the title is Pep Guardiola’s side’s to lose.

With Liverpool struggling in front of goal, supporters have struggled to understand why Shaqiri hasn’t featured.

The nimble Swiss’ last start came on the 30th of January and he was an unused substitute at Goodison Park despite the Reds being in desperate need for a winner.

With his exclusion becoming the elephant in the room in recent weeks, Klopp was given the chance to explain why Shaqiri hasn’t featured.

“He had a little injury and was out [for Bournemouth at home],” he said.

“There was something with his back and he needed a little time.

“With the line-up we had and system wise, it wasn’t difficult but we have to change a little bit if Shaq is playing.

“For the last few games, we didn’t do that. He’s fully fit now.”

Liverpool host Burnley on Sunday lunchtime, hoping to bounce-back to winning ways ahead of their Champions League second-leg with Bayern Munich.

Now the German has declared Shaqiri is fully fit, there will be further confusion should he not feature against the Clarets.
