Searches for “Sustainable” and “Ethical” Fashion Are Way Up
Global fashion search platform Lyst just released a new report that shows one of 2019’s biggest trends is less about what clothes look like and more about how they’re made. Searches related to sustainable fashion were up. Way up.
Lyst tracked over 100 million searches across 5 million products and found a 66 percent increase in searches for sustainable fashion, or related keywords, since 2018. Searches for “organic cotton” are up 16 percent year over year, and sustainable denim brands have seen a 187 percent increase in page views. Meanwhile, searches for vegan leather — including searches for bags and shoes — are up 119 percent since October.
Among the specific products that were searched for are Reformation’s Gavin dress, Mara Hoffman’s Kia one-piece swimswuit, and Stella McCartney’s faux-leather sneaker collaboration with Stan Smith, which was released last September.
The resale market has also been booming. Lyst saw a rise in traffic of 329 percent in searches for luxury pre-owned products. Recycling has never been more chic!
