Tottenham player ratings vs Man City: Lloris and Son heroic, Kane injured, but who got 8?
Tottenham player ratings: Hugo Lloris saved an early penalty from Sergio Aguero
Spurs hold a slender lead over Man City following the first leg of their Champions League tie thanks to Son Heung-min’s solo effort.
The South Korean forward scored the only goal of the game after showing excellent skill to beat the offside trap and keep the ball in play before firing home low past Ederson.
City dominated for much of the match and had a chance to go ahead early on from the penalty spot, only for Hugo Lloris to deny Sergio Aguero.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Tottenham with Harry Kane departing injured just before the hour after a clash with Fabian Delph.
Express Sport has rated how the Tottenham players performed during their Champions League clash with Manchester City, but do you agree?
Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Manchester City – Champions League
GK: Hugo Lloris – 8
Did brilliantly to keep Aguero out from 12 yards, diving to his left and palming the Argentine’s shot away to safety.
Then displayed his agility to keep out David Silva twice as Spurs held firm under pressure.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 4
Given a tough time by Raheem Sterling, with the England winger’s pace causing problems all evening.
One slip allowed Nicolas Otamendi in although the full-back did threaten with his delivery at the other end.
Tottenham player ratings: Kieran Trippier had a tough time against a vibrant City attack
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 6
Was resolute under huge pressure all evening, mopping up when needed and winning plenty of aerial battles.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 6
Shackled Aguero for much of the match and enjoyed a formidable partnership with Alderweireld, although the Belgian was lucky not to go in the book for a lunge on Kyle Walker.
LB: Danny Rose – 5
Defended stoutly against Riyad Mahrez and could be considered unlucky to concede the penalty for a raised arm.
Like several team-mates, looked to be flagging late on but kept plugging away up and down the flank.
Tottenham player ratings: Danny Rose was unlucky to concede an early penalty
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 7
Another customary busy performance from the Frenchman, although he was guilty of diving in on occasions.
CM: Harry Winks – 8
Very tidy in possession, keeping Tottenham ticking over and doing his best to disrupt City’s rhythm.
A vital contribution on his return to the side.
RAM: Christian Eriksen – 7
Quiet as City dominated the opening hour but came into his own late on, spraying the ball around with brilliant accuracy as Spurs grew into the game.
Played Son in for the winner with an excellent pass.
Tottenham player ratings: Christian Eriksen’s influence on the game grew in the later stages
CAM: Dele Alli – 6
In the thick of it and caused plenty of problems with his physical presence, although he didn’t really have a clear chance.
Took plenty of hefty hits from the opposition defence and left the pitch cradling his wrist.
LAM: Son Heung-min – 8
Made the difference for Tottenham once again with his direct running and sharp finishing.
ST: Harry Kane – 6
Enjoyed a titanic battle with Otamendi all evening but was forced off after his lunge on Delph resulted in a full set of studs on his ankle.
